KIM KARDASHIAN ON BODY SHAMING
Body shaming is where people would tell you to lose or gain weight or that you must change the way you look because they simply don’t approve of your appearance. Unfortunately, in this generation we are currently in, body shaming seems so he so normal, but luckily a lot of people are fighting and raising awareness for it. It is common on social media where people would simply comment on what they think is wrong about your look and point out all of your flaws or imperfections. However, what most people don’t really understand is that body shaming can also be applied to yourself.
Kim Kardashian, who is known for being the most famous Kardashian sister from the reality show, Keeping up with the Kardashians, admitted that she has been struggling with her looks. In one of the most recent episodes of the show, she was discussing the photos the paparazzi took of her while she was in Mexico, the mother of two stated that “You take pictures, and if they’re not perfect, people just body shame you and criticize you. For people to just think that’s ok is so frustrating. I can’t have fun after seeing those pics. It’s just wild because there are other pics where I looked good and it’s just from a different angle. It’s like literally giving me body dysmorphia. People think I’m so confident and I’m so secure but I just can’t take it.”

WHAT IS BODY DYSMORPHIA?
In a recent study, Body Dysmorphic Disorder or BDD is actually pretty common among Americans of all ages, races, and genders. In fact, every year, the number of people getting accredited by this is increasing, which is why the cosmetic procedures being done every year is increasing as well.
According to Dr. Era Gorbis from the Anxiety and Depression Association of America and the founder of the Westwood Institute for Anxiety Disorders, “Body dysmorphic disorder is considered to be the disease of self-perceived ugliness.”
This actually affects about 5 million Americans according to the recent statistics with both men and women. People who have this disorder are actually known to be incredibly obsessed with how they look with the emphasis on what they actually believe to be perfect. Such as having their ideal nose, skin tone, chin, eyes, ears, even private parts. According to Dr. Gorbis, these people normally have a very disturbed and distorted self-image that points out their imperfections and most of these cannot be seen by the unsuspected eye. They overly critical thinking is basically what feeds the mind.
Which is why most people choose to spend tons of money to seek help from surgeons and “fix” their imperfections and alter their images. “I had one patient who had another 100 procedures and 17 plastic surgeries pa and then she was obsessed with another part of her appearance. Usually, once the surgery is done they may be happy for a little while, and then the focal point most to another body part or appearance,” Gorbis explained.
The Kardashians are actually known to have had multiple procedures done with their bodies even if not every one of them admitted it. It is only now that Kim actually admitted having been suffering from body dysmorphic disorder.
