How Your Body Language Plays A Part At Your Workplace

In any workplace, proper communication is an essential key to open many doors of opportunities and development. Communicating with your colleagues and seniors at your office is imperative if you want to accomplish your tasks and work as a team. Similarly, your body language is something that conveys your feelings and intentions to your colleagues. A thorough awareness regarding that helps you make a proper assessment of any kind of message you are trying to pass on to your co-workers. Your body gestures in the workplace matter a lot. Get to know about the different types of body languages that help you strike a balance at your office.
Types Of Body Languages
When it is about body language, it generally includes the way you behave with people and your actions as well. Eye contact is one such indicator that communicates the lion’s share of your feelings and what you want to communicate to your peers at your workplace. When you maintain eye contact with your colleagues, you display your honesty, your integrity, and your interest. When you avoid eye contact, it exhibits your low self-esteem which doesn’t work in your favor. The overall posture that you exhibit gives your seniors the confidence that you can execute a task with integrity. A negative body language shows that you are lacking the required confidence or you are disinterested. Hand gestures also play a pivotal part in workplace communication.
Observe And Evaluate The Body Language Of Juniors
If you focus on the body language of your subordinates or your juniors, you can find ways on how to go ahead with your work. As far as a small group situation is concerned, body language is one aspect which can never be overlooked. If a junior lacks confidence, it can signify two things. Either he or she is low on self-esteem or they are dishonest in their approach. Evaluation of a particular body language becomes imperative here. You can identify the problems which can snowball into bigger troubles later on and seek out solutions. If an employee is running short on self-confidence and is unable to accomplish a particular task, additional support or training can be provided to help them complete a task that has been assigned to them. If you sense the problem they are going through, you can work towards it and solve them in the due process.
Presentations And Meetings
When you are attending a presentation, assessing the juniors’ body language is important if you want to analyze if the message you want to convey has been passed on to them successfully. If an employee is feeling disturbed or lacks any kind of interest, they will avoid eye contact or will exhibit a negative body language. It’s your responsibility to find out whether they are harboring any negative feelings. Investigate everything before you react, and don’t make any assumptions. If needed, you have to inquire about what your colleague is feeling or what message he or she is trying to pass on to you. Gaining a proper understanding of your colleague’s body language is something that is absolutely significant for ensuring the progress of the project you have undertaken as a team.
After Effects
You already know by now that a colleague’s body language expresses everything about what they feel. But, if you infer an expression in the wrong way, things might deteriorate and might lead to misunderstanding which is not good for work. Some gestures might be a result of differences in culture which you can’t ignore. This is where you can’t react before going to the root of the problem. What you then need to do is ask a few questions to acquire what your colleague is actually feeling. The more you work with them, the better understanding you develop.
Completing a project as a team requires you to realize what your subordinates or team members are trying to communicate. Assess their body language and make eye contact as much as possible and give them the confidence that you rely on them. Communicating with them at a proper time will ease out whatever hiccups you face as a team and would help you go forward. Remember that non-verbal communication is key to building robust and meaningful business relationships. You need to have a positive body language to boost your confidence, as well as that of your entire team.
