Here’s Everything You Need to Know About Gwyneth Paltrow’s Detox Plan for 2019
Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow has managed to build herself a successful business sharing her lifestyle and diet through Goop. Founded just a decade ago, the natural health and lifestyle company is now valued at $250 million.
One of the most popular and anticipated products the company offers is their annual five-day detox plan which involves the elimination of certain foods to reap the cleansing and healing benefits of a detox.
The New Plan
Similar to previous years’ detox plans, this year’s version still follows the guidelines of Dr. Alejandro Junger’s 21-Day Clean Program which Paltrow swears by as well.
Essentially, it requires the elimination of food or drinks which has gluten, corn, caffeine, alcohol, eggs, white rice, soy, refined sugar, dairy and nightshades like potatoes and eggplants.
It also comes with a set of nutrient-rich recipes for the entire five-day detox. These recipes mostly require ingredients such as seeds, lean proteins, hearty grains, and leafy greens and veggies.

Leafy and green vegetables like kale, spinach, and watercress are packed with essential nutrients, vitamins, and fiber but are low in calories.
Watch Out for the More Expensive Grocery Bill
People who are familiar with the annual detox and the Goop brand warn newbies of a more expensive grocery bill if they’re planning to give the plan a try.
Estimates amount to around $300 to get all the food and ingredients listed in it. Most of the shopping list can be found in any health food store like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. But dieters may need to get some hard-to-find things like coconut aminos and sweet potato vermicelli pasta from online stores.

National studies show that buying fresh produce at farmers markets is cheaper on average compared to shopping for them in grocery stores.
A Challenging Detox
Aside from the challenge of getting all of the food you need for the recipes, most people find it difficult to stick to the strict meal plans. Busy and working women may also find it extra hard to find the time to cook and prepare every meal.
Some people even report experiencing mild to severe symptoms of caffeine withdrawal during the first two days of the detox. Meanwhile, there are also women who report getting headaches due to hunger. Good news is that the body tends to acclimate to the new meal plan by day three making the rest of the detox days easier to get through.
Health Benefits

Some studies link detoxification with more restful sleep and increased energy during the day.
Women who’ve tried and finished Goop’s annual detox report many benefits. A bit of weight loss and relief from bloating are the most cited ones. Some women mention losing around three pounds in the five-day period.
Others even say the detox helped their body get rid of certain aches they’ve previously experienced. They also credited it for giving them more energy and increasing the quality of their sleep.
Considering these, it seems the diet’s challenging nature really does pay off in the end.
