You Won’t Believe These Photos from the 1969 Woodstock Festival: From Eccentric Spectators to Spellbinding Performances from Names like Jimi Hendrix.
John Sebastian’s impromptu performance
What do you know? Here’s another J! Though John Sebastian had already acquired a reputation as a singer, he wasn’t scheduled to perform at Woodstock. But between Santana’s set and the next act, there was a lull in the atmosphere. And Sebastian had to abandon his post as a spectator to get the crowd moving again.
So there he is in his colorful pants and jacket, which he’d tie-dyed himself, performing an unplanned set to the appreciative crowd. Sebastian even dedicated his encore “Younger Generation” to a person in the audience who’d just had a baby. What a guy! What a show!
