Some of the talents who performed at Woodstock had already acquired a reputation as notable singers. But for newly formed groups like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, it was a chance to make a name for themselves.
As you’d expect of a new band, the men were nervous wrecks by the time they made it up the stage. It wasn’t so much because of the crowd, but because they were surrounded by more renowned musicians. If only they’d anticipated the positive reaction from the crowd, they would have shaken the nerves off much earlier.
