You Won’t Believe These Photos from the 1969 Woodstock Festival: From Eccentric Spectators to Spellbinding Performances from Names like Jimi Hendrix.
Sweetwater – Pioneers of Jazz Music
The word ‘unusual’ seems insufficient to describe how eccentric a band ‘Sweetwater’ was. And this was the ’60s where unusual was the status quo, so you know they were different from their peers to stand out. The band didn’t have a guitar, but they played the flute, a cello, drums, conga, and a keyboard.
In addition, they were also considered pioneers of ‘jazz fusion’ long before the term was coined. And you know they were good enough to be the opening act on day one of Woodstock ’69. Unfortunately, Sweetwater missed their slot due to traffic. Luckily enough, a chopper flew them in, and fans got to see them perform.
